Ahoj, czech republic is fantastic for riding a bike. Roads are quite good and there are many small paths with signs for bikers and turists. There are many restaurants, pups and grocery shops . Prices for lunch start on 60CZK (outside big cities).
In turistic regions there are csmps, there many pensions or hotels, but it is more expensive. If you want to sleep without paying, you can sleep in forests, but not in reserves (CHKO, přírodní park, národní přírodní rezervace). If you stay hidden, nobody will care about you.
What part of CR will you visit depends on you. Castles are prepared for Russian turistist. Do you like hills, mountains or flat plains? Technical history or wine cellars???
For instance in Jeseniky mountains, or Orlicke mountains, costs accomodation in privat from 200 CZK for person for night. Cheap guesthoses are not here, but here are camps. In many camps are also cottages. In september is main summer season over, so I think accomodation capacity will be free.
For planning of path are good web pages www.mapy.cz, tourist variant (button "Turisticka"], where are camps and also cykling routes.
It's hard to write some concrete informations, if I don't know, what You prefered.
Thank you for answers!
Thank for info about price of lunch and accomodation! We plan relatively cheap travel.
We have some time before September for plan a travel )) We have an approximate plan.
First. We want to explore Prague. It will take 3..4 days. We plan accommodate in camping DRUSUS http://www.drusus.com. Preferably in rooms (hostel). Or SUNNY camp http://www.sunny-camp.cz.
Then we want to ride somewhere. I think, it will about 400km..500km ring to the South (Tabor, Brno) or to the North (may be Dresden) or to the West (Karlovy Vary, Plzen). I dont know.
Of course, a couple of castles must be!
In general, we would like just ride in far from autoban, in rural, through towns and villages, in far from popular foreign-tourist routes and see on how ordinary people live. Hills, mountains or flat plains - no matter. We live on Ural Mountains in Chelyabinsk (http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=55.23842... And there are a lot of mountains for training ))) But terrain with hills more interesting for view.
In Russia also you can to camp everywhere, excluding reservation.
On mapy.cz, turistic map, there are pretty good maps of our country, violet line is bike path, more pink is special sidewalk for bikes.
Don´t forget trains, our railways aren´t good, bud they transport bike for 30 CZK, in most of trains, www.cd.cz.
Karlovy Vary is nice city, but I am not sure if it is bikers city also. It is very luxury, with huge russian population :-)
There is bike path along Labe river from Prague to Dresden, it is good way. In south Bohemia, there is beautiful city Cesky Krumlov a nd village Holašovice (both Unesco). České Budějovice, Třeboň, Slavonice, Jindřichův Hradec, Písek, Tábor are also nice cities. In Hluboka, Třeboň or Rožmberk are nice castles.
Interesting is Moravia also, take train Zábřeh and travel from north to south along Morava river, there are some paths and variable coutryside. By the way there are 3 UNESCO sites too :-)
I only specify travel from Zabreh. From Zabreh is nice go to the north, throught Hanusovice to Jesenik city. From Jesenik to Karlova Studanka, up to Praded, it's the highest mountain in Moravia and second highest in Czech, than go on to Rymarov, Olomouc. IN Olomouc is nece and interesting historical city. From Olomouc go on along Morava river, throught Kromeriz, it's also historical city, to South Moravia, it's warm region, where wine-growing, with many wine cellars:-)
MarekD, Jeseniky mountains are very beautiful! The nature almost like in Russia ))) I saw all your photos. And I really liked it! I am amateur photographer.
What mean "accomodation in privat"? In houses of ordinary people (not in camps or hotels)?
Really in Europe all bike-roads how this http://www.mdostal.eu/rujana/010cyklostezka.html ? In Russia there is no bike-roads...
http://mapy.cz - is great service!
Bananovník, idea with trains is wonderful! I did not think about trains...
Thanks for a cities! They will be a key points of our travel.
"Karlovy Vary is nice city, but I am not sure if it is bikers city also. It is very luxury, with huge russian population :-)" Oh, those russians! :-) No! No any russians!
What weather in beginning of September in Czechia?
P.S. I forgotten. Congratulation with a win in World Championship hockey :-)
Yes, Jeseniky are very nice!:-) I saw Your photos, they are nice. Ural is "exotic far-away" region for us, it's very interesting to see this photos.
"Accomodation in privat" means, that many people have in their houses room for rent for turists, mostly it is room with little kitchen, toilet room and bathroom. Exemple is here www.unetopilu.eu. This kind of accomodation is cheaper than pension or hotel, but with the same comfort. But this kind of accomodation is mostly here in mountains, in turists region, in cities it's only seldom.
Special bike-roads in Czech are only seldom, mostly near big cities. Otherwise bike-roads are marked on normal minor roads with light traffic.
Wheather in September is mostly nice, sunny, temperature around 20 degrees, typical mild climate. But for instance two years ago was two weeks in September rainy and cold.
p.s. :-) thanks for congratulations, but it's only sport:-) Our hockey-players surprised us:-)
There are some my pics - http://picasaweb.google.cz/bananovnik28 these are from whole country
There are some from Prague region, south moravia (the best of VB) - http://picasaweb.google.cz/Infostred
And there are mostly in Velikonoce 2010 photos from south bohemia :-)
http://picasaweb.google.cz/aztamaci/
Ural is not exotic. I live here ))).
If you will plan to travel in Russia, you must to know that Russia - is not only Moscow and St.Peterburg. Real Russia begin from Ural and further on the East in Siberia :-).
Ok, I thought just in this mean about "accomodation in privat". We used it in travel in Caucasus on Black Sea in 2008 http://picasaweb.google.com/chumburlen/DkwDuH. By car. 2700 km from Chelyabinsk.
I have next portion of questions.
Can I ride on sidewalks in cities? Or where I must ride in cities?
Can I burn fire in forest (not in reservations of course)? And use wood (trees or its brunches) for fire?
Can I ride without helmet?
Whether there are roads on which it is forbidden to ride on bike?
I saw photo. Very nice photos. Very informative about bike travel in CR. Now I imagine more better.
He-he, we have beer Velkopopovický Kozel too. I always buy it. Hopefully, I'll try real Czech Velkopopovický Kozel and other world famous Czech beer.
P.S. I have bought the tickets! Now we have to book hostel and issue a Schengen visa.
For us is exotic everything behind Schengen boarder :-D Especially Ural and further east :-)
On sidewalk you can ride only, if there is sign with bike. But if there is bikepath (sidewalk with bike sign) you must ride it!
Nobody will be happy, if you burn fire in forest. You can take wood, but not so much and don´t get down healthy trees. You can go through all forests exept reservations.
Helemet must use only kids under 18 years.
You are not allowed ride bike on highways ("Dálnice (D1, D2....) and speedways (I don´t now english translation - Rychlostní komunikace - R1,R6...).
There are many better beers then Kozel :-) Also in some smaller cities there are "family" brewaries with fantastic beer.
Good Luck and ask us, if you will need :)
Don't worry about yours forests ))))).
I have asked these questions to know what can I do and what - no. I should respect laws and rules of that country, where go.
Just in Russia there are huge vast, endless forests, taiga or steppe. Tiny population density (from Ural and till the Far East). For many kilometres there is no one settlement... I understand, this difficult to understand for europeans )))
In Russia also it is not allowed to cut trees. But if they dried up or have fallen to the ground self - it is possible. Except reservation and national parks of course.
Here you may see how we use our forest for the fire:
this is in city park (ooops this is a little illegal)
http://picasaweb.google.ru/chumburlen...
http://picasaweb.google.ru/chumburlen...
http://picasaweb.google.ru/chumburlen...
..but this park is a little forest ))
this is far from city
http://picasaweb.google.ru/chumburlen/2010_05...
this is in real touristic travel
http://picasaweb.google.ru/chumburlen/21232009...
And this is normal for Russia.
In CR we plan eat in cafes, bars, cheap restaurants (or how you call this places). Sleep in hostels or camps. Just in case we take tent and sleeping bags.
I saw on photo, that you ride almost without luggage carriers and without big bags on it. This is because you travel in the populated locality.
See how ride we: http://picasaweb.google.ru/chumburlen/17192009...
http://picasaweb.google.ru/chumburlen/21232009...
With luggage carriers with special bags on it.
In the travel in CR I don't want to use special big bag on luggage carrier. I just take tent, sleeping bag and travel mat. And not big backpack.
I saw on photo you have a very good bikes! You are well versed in bicycles!
Next questions :)
What Czech words are used for a designation of cafe, snackbars and so on on signboards where may to eat (jídelna, kavárna.., ...)?
How much money need for ordinary nutrition per day? About 400 crones is enough?
Genrally, making fire is prohibited at so many places (in forest and 50 meters of its end, riverside, ...), practically everyvhere. But its reasonably tolerated. Probably like in Russia.
Like riding on the sidewalks. Generally prohibited, in the centre of city it is a problem, but in small towns it's tolerated.
Generally "restaurace, hospoda" means like russian "Ресторан, Паб". I have been to Russia ten years ago (Кавказ, Приэльбрусье), food and beer was in similar prices, alcohol is more expensive in Czech republic (нет водки 20 рублей:-( )
I'm sorry, I'll prefere english, because i have no russian keyboard. Two slavic nations comunicating in english, its a shame:-/
Meal in normal restaurant outside city centres is starting on 60 CZK (Hotovka - prepared) to 200 CZK steak and more for specialilies :-)
Bear (0,5l) is for about 20CZK and more...
Bad steak :-D
Hi, I am in UK now, and I am going to turn back to CZ on Sunday 6. I will give you some tips for travelling by bike in our nice country and you can ask more questions in Russian. Because I can speak and write Russian, and at home I have got a Russian keyboard.
See you on Monday evening. I hope my plane will fly /the Island volcano will not eructate again/
Good flight and soft landing! :-)
Jungmannova, prodejna "KIVI").

Děkuji pěkně!
Olomouc.
Drusus!
We already have tickets and have booked pension Drusus.
We plan to visit Czech Republic 30 aug. - 13 sept.
It is remained to receive Schengen visa.
Ahoj!
Jsme obdrželi víza!
Hello!
We have received visas! August 30 we will be in Prague.
We plan stay in Prague about 4 days. Then we plan to visit regions around of České Budějovice, Brno, Olomouc... But this is approximate. We have not a defined plan yet.
13 September we will fly home from Prague.
Hi all!
Báječně!!!
Hi, congratulation!!!
Hello,
congratulation for the visas too.
Special tips for České Budejovice (some of them valid for other cities):
1) as you arrive to the town, ask in the Tourist office (informační centrum) or townhall (radnice) – sometimes they have special maps for bikers (free of charge or for 60-100 CZK) – (in České Budejovice there is now an edition for free „Na kole krajem Ceskobudejovicka”, ask in the Informacni centrum Radnice).
2) ask for „cyklobus“: buses adapted to transport bikes, usually going from the bigger towns to attractive targets. Beg. of Sept. they should be still going (but maybe on week-ends and limited nr). For the south it is www.cyklotrans.cz (chapter 03 – time schedule, 04 and 05 other transporters adapted to bikers and concurring to the buses, 06 tips where to go). One of the buses is going from Ceske Budejovice to Znojmo, but in Sept. only on Sat. and Sun. And for other places, there were articles http://www.nakole.cz/clanky/697-kam-jezdi... and http://www.nakole.cz/clanky/691-kam-jezdi... with links to the transporters.
3) for Sumava and surrounding mountains by the state borders there is a nr not only of bike routes, but also of old army routes – hidden in forests but with built-up surface, quite good for riding, very often closed for cars. On the south-west/south, there is not so much civilization, but the nature is great (during communism, it was closed, used by army to protect the border).
4) in Sumava, directly in the middle of national park (narodni park) they made a special areas for “bivacs – “nouzova nocoviste” – you can stay there one night, in tent, no fire – it is intended specially for hikers going through the Sumava, but they are accessible by bike as well (http://www.npsumava.cz/gallery/1/400-bivac.pdf)- It could allow you to see the most interesting places in the mountains and if you can not find any other accommodation (and it is free;o)… (practically it is enclosure area of about 10 m2, out of any civilisation, with a chemical toilet beside…)
5) communication: do not hesitate to try to use Russian – people about 40-50 could understand it better then English (especially in villages, small towns).
Hello All!
We are in Prague from 30 august ))) Prague is very beautiful.
But only yesterday rode on the bikes.
In couple of days we plan to move in South Czech (around Ceské Budejovice).
